Are You Sure About Digital Photography?

In these modern times of the computer age, more and more people are enthusing about digital photography. As the cost of digital cameras has tumbled, the average man or woman in the street has found it a lot easier to afford the modern photographic equipment. And, by using the up-to-the-minute version of what we once used in 35mm format, Mr and Mrs Joe Public have found photography a veritable doddle for capturing better quality photos.

Digital cameras and photography is here to stay. There are those, of course, who are still sticking by their trusty 35mm film cameras, but at what cost? Perhaps the following points may persuade them to pension off their old equipment in favour of the more modern equivalent.

Here's what can be gained by switching to digital photography:

* Digital photography is very convenient. The majority of camera models now available are fully automatic - unlike many of their 35mm predecessors. Not only that, but the modern equivalents are much lighter, making them more portable. They are extremely user-friendly to the point that many digital single lens reflex (DSLR) cameras can fit into an average jacket pocket.

* Digital cameras can give you an instant result in the review window. This can save no end of time and expense, because you can delete the poor quality pictures and just retain the best for printing out. Nowadays, we don't have to accept what we hope we've captured, as the shots can be viewed instantly. It's now a case of 'if at first you don't succeed.' and that can't be bad, can it?

* When the digital photos have been taken, they can be printed off immediately - or as quickly as you can get to your computer! If you own a digital printer then you can carry it around with you. Just plug your camera into it, press the button and away it prints. As a digital printer is light enough to carry around, it would hardly be noticed tucked away in your camera bag. What a huge time saving over taking film to be developed and then returning to the developers to pick up the prints.

* Photos can be modified and tweaked at any time, using computer software. Lighting becomes less of an issue because brightness and contrast can be adjusted in a photo editing application. You can also crop the photos, thus removing any unnecessary background. Veritable photographic works of art can be achieved through computer enhancement.

* Armed with your digital camera, you can create your own small work-from-home business. You can take photos of people and, with the aid of even more computer software, you can produce picture mugs, tee-shirts, calendars, greetings cards - anything that an active imagination can conjure up. There's an extensive array of photo papers available for you to be able to create many items and there is a potential goldmine of an income to be made.

* It is far easier to print off additional copies of photos for family members. Portrait or family group photos can be stored on your computer's hard drive, CD/DVD or memory stick and can be accessed for printing at a moment's notice. Or, you can simply email the photos to relatives or friends. Compare this to all the extra work involved with having to scan old-fashioned 35mm photos and I know what I prefer to do!

Digital photography really does shine its light right now and, with prices of digital cameras being within easy financial reach of most people, there's never been a better time to nurture your photographic acumen.
